Francis Wayne Summers was born to Martha and Wayne Summers in Wyandot County, Ohio in February of 1846. In February of 1864, just after his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the United State Army. He fought in the War of Secession or as it is generally known as, the Civil War. He company was part of Sherman's March and after serving one year and 16 days he was discharged due to injury in 1865. In 1866 he married Rose Reynolds.

In a Biographical Sketch of Hardin County, written in 1883 the following was recored about Wayne.

Francis W. Summers, a brother of William H., and the third son of his father's family, is a resident and farmer of Hale Township, Hardin County, Ohio, and was born in Wyandot County, Ohio, February 18, 1845. He commenced in life by renting land, on which he farmed for six years, and then bought forty acres of land in his native county, which he subsequently sold, purchasing fifty-five acres of the farm where he now resides. In 1864, he volunteered in the Forty-ninth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged befure the close of the war on account of disability. He was engaged at the battle at Pickett Mills, Ga., which lasted twenty-four hours, besides several skirmishes. He was married March 18, 1866, to Rosolthee, daughter of George W. and Elizabeth Reynolds. She was born March 19, 1849; her father was a native of Pennsylvania and her mother of Wyandot County, Ohio. They settled in Wyandot County, where they have since remained. To Mr. and Mrs. Summers have been born six children, of whom four survive, vie., Mary Idella, Emma Viola, Adrian E. and Florence L. Robert (deceased) was born January 12, 1870, died July 29, 1874; and Sylva L. was born November 28, 1871, died February 17, 1878. Mr. Summers has lived in Hardin County since 1877, and has been generally successful.

What is missing is due to the year of this record was the birth of my direct ancestor Harrison Albert Summers, born 1889.

Wayne died just days shy of his 75th birthday in 1920 from pneumonia. His is buried with in Hardin County in Wolf Creek Cemetery outside of Mt. Victory, Ohio.

Beginnings

It all started in Ohio with this guy. William Summers who was born in August of 1810 in area that is now Logan County. Not much is known about his early years as the records are scarce. I have found tax records that potentially match him in Logan County around his 20th year. At some point he moved to Crawford County and eventually married a Martha Ritchey in 1834. Wyandot County was formed in 1845 from parts of Crawford, Hardin, Hancock, Marion and Seneca Counties. It was here that he and Martha raised their family. Records indicate that there were eight children born to their union. My direct ancestor was their son Francis Wayne who preferred to be called Wayne.

According to census records, William lived in Wyandot County until his death in December of 1882.

I plan to add more details of his life as they become available. They will be posted at a later time.
